Auto Insurance Discounts

South Carolina has specific requirements for auto insurance, so having auto insurance is not an option.  While we cannot control the actual insurance rates, we can help you find discounts to help lower your insurance premiums.  Auto Insurance discounts typically fall into three categories: Driver discounts, vehicle discounts, and policy discounts.  We here at Advisors Insurance Agency try our best to ensure you have any and all discounts you qualify for!

Driver discounts are discounts that have to do with YOU.  Here are a few examples.
  • Student Discount: These may be available for students who maintain a certain GPA and sometimes for just being a student.  Being a member of certain fraternities, sororities, or Honor society may also qualify you for a discount.
  • Affiliation Discount: Affiliations with certain groups, such as the military or particular employers, may qualify you for auto insurance discounts.
  • Good Driver Discount: These discounts are determined by the number of claims, number of tickets, etc that the driver has.   Additionally, an educated driver (one who has taken a driver's education course or defensive driving course) may receive a discount.
  • Low Mileage Discount: The theory here is that the less you drive, the less likely you will be in an accident and file a claim.  Therefore, you may qualify for a discount.

Vehicle discounts have to do with your CAR.  Think about this in terms of the safety features your car has, such as anti-lock brakes, anti-theft, and safety restraint systems, among others.  Is your car green/hybrid?  Is it a new car?  These are a few things to think about for this category.

Policy discounts have to do with your POLICY or how you PAY your policy.   You may qualify for these discounts by doing the following:
  • Bundling: Multi-car or multi-policy bundling often results in a discount.  For example, having multiple cars on one policy or insuring your home and car with the same company.
  • Policy payment discounts: Going paperless, paying your premium in full at once rather than monthly installments, or auto-pay are all options that may qualify you for a discount.
  • Renewal discounts: Some insurers offer renewal discounts or discounts for new customers as a way to earn your business.
Currently, the number one reason auto insurance rates are increasing is distracted driving.  There are many apps out there that help decrease distracted driving in an effort to decrease your insurance rates.  Many insurers have their own apps, such as State Farms' Drive Safe & Save App or Snapshot from Progressive.
