Mamre Mission
Mamre Missions is a registered local non-profit organization in Powdersville, SC. Mamre (mom-ray) is a Hebrew word meaning Well Fed, Fully Assimilated, Abundantly Supplied. Founder Leslie feels this word eloquently encompasses their mission. Mamre Missions provides Powdersville and the surrounding areas with fresh produce, meats, non-perishables and more via their monthly Mobile Pantry/Community Table which is currently located in the parking lot of Powdersville First Baptist Church in Easley, SC.
Mamre Mission’s Origin Story
About 4 years ago founder Leslie and her family moved here from Richmond, VA. They were looking for ways to serve the community as a family. In the summer of 2023, Leslie and her two children (then 8 and 3 years old) had the opportunity through their church to serve some local students and their families in the Easley area that were struggling with food insecurity and the inability to access the bagged lunches provided by the state. She and her children assembled and delivered a bagged lunch once a week to these families throughout the summer months. It was an eye-opening and heartwarming experience and one that completely changed their family for the good.
Leslie stated “When we serve others and get outside of our own four walls, we come to realize just how blessed we are and in turn it makes us very grateful for all the Lord has given us. Little did I know God was planting a seed in my heart for what is now known as Mamre Missions.”
Currently, Mamre Missions hosts a Drive-thru panty on the first Thursday of each month from 6:00-7:30pm. But they are more than just a food ministry. They are providing opportunities on a local level to love their neighbors through their monthly mobile food pantry/Community Table, as well as their student summer meal delivery program. They are also building relationships within this community. Some of the initial families they served that first summer have joined forces to assist with the mission of the non-profit.
Leslie is very proud of what Mamre Missions is accomplishing and the fact that they have partnered with multiple churches and denominations across her community. She says, “It is beautiful to watch our volunteers from so many different churches in the area work together in unity to bring His Kingdom here on earth and I am very proud of the legacy we are building within our community!” Mamre Missions is a very family friendly organization-she says “if my 3 year old can put an apple in a bag (without taste testing it first!) so can yours!”
What does the future hold for Mamre Missions?
Leslie has many goals and aspirations for these ministries. Mamre Missions assembled and delivered 850 nutritious meals to the doorsteps of students and their families in Williamston, SC summer of 2024. She is actively working towards expanding this ministry to all of the Anderson district 1 schools this summer, all while not sacrificing their core values of love, hospitality and service and providing a quality meal.
Why Greenville?
Leslie and her husband are major foodies and enjoy the restaurant scene in Greenville and Traveler's Rest. Soby's on Main Street in Greenville is their personal favorite go-to for date night. As a family, they enjoy the local area parks and playing mini golf at Take Off Mini Golf at Runway Park. When they aren’t trying new foods or playing in the park, you will find them cheering for their son’s baseball team with Wren Little League! “Go Canes!!”
